Mauna Kea is a classic island cottage located on 40th Street. The marsh-facing covered porch, sun deck, and pier offer stunning views and the perfect spot to watch spectacular sunsets. Being close to Bird Island is a fantastic bonus for nature walks and bird watching. With all those wonderful features and the serene environment, it's no wonder it's such a sought-after spot. Whether you're looking to relax, enjoy outdoor activities, or simply take in the beautiful views, it is the perfect place to do it all.
This is a Linen Ready home – bath towels, kitchen towels and bathmats will be provided at no charge, and the beds will be made with linen upon arrival.
This home is dog friendly, allowing up to two dogs per rental. There is an additional fee if you plan to bring your dog(s) with you.

We have been visiting Sunset Beach for over 30 years and love that Mauna Kea is one of the remaining traditional beach cottages. The location and view have to be some of the best on the island, and the house is well equipped with quality furniture, kitchen gear and a great bookshelf. The dock is fun for fishing and bird watching although it would probably be difficult to launch a kayak or paddleboard.

Mauna Kea is a pretty basic beach house in a great location on the marsh. It does sleep twelve but that makes for a very tight fit. Taking out the single beds and advertising it Sleeps eight would make for a more comfortable arrangement.

I choose this property primarily for its location. It allows me the best opportunity on the island to experience the wild and natural aspects of Sunset Beach, since it is adjacent to the Bird Island marsh and stretch of undeveloped beach. I also choose this property because I can bring my dog.

Wonderful house that met our family needs. Wonderful views from the back deck. Close to beach access. We are long time visitors of the area, coming to the beach at Sunset/Ocean Isle for 40 years.

We love this beach and this house. The view from the porch is always lovely and relaxing. We always bring our dog, so the dog friendly aspect is also appreciated.

We liked this facility very much. We enjoyed the view from the deck. We really enjoyed mauna kea.All of our family was well pleased with accomodations. In our fifty plus years at Sunset Beach this was one of the best.

We love Mauna Kea. Very homey, a true old beach house. Don't change a thing!
The home is dated but clean and comfortably furnished with lots of room. It's a great property for dog owners! The views from the back deck are spectacular!
