Turtle Time on the Island

When you are at Sunset Beach during the summer, one of the activities that you should bring the kids to is the weekly "Turtle Talk" held at Sunset Properties' office Sunday nights at 7 pm.

The event is presented by the local Turtle Patrol, lead by Carmel Zetts.  For a number of years Carmel and the rest of the patrol volunteers have given their time to introduce the sea turtles to island visitors, and manage the annual nests on the island strand itself.

The Sunday night show usually lasts about 30 minutes, and includes an overview on the turtles, what to look for early in the morning to see if any new nests have been made, and the show ends with a fun little dance that all of the kids can participate in.  The group has some exhibits of turtle shells, turtle eggs, and more.

If you have a vacation rental scheduled in August with Sunset Properties, bring the kids to the show on Sunday night.  The presentations will continue through August 26th this summer.

We learned at last week's show that there currently are 7 nests on the island that won't start hatching until August.
