Fall weather found us on the island of Sunset Beach this week, as did the start of a long-awaited project called "Streetscape" for the island's commercial area between Main Street and North Shore Drive.

Workers begin removing the old sidewalk as part of the improvements to be made.

This project will add a walking/biking trail on the west side of the road, and update the parking and sidewalk areas on the east side (in front of our office building).  It will also tie into the bike/jogging space currently available on the causeway and bridge, and add some plantings on both sides of the road.

This is one of two big infrastructure projects taking place prior to next summer.  The second project will have a roundabout installed at the bridge entrance on the mainland to help improve the traffic flow at that intersection.  That project is to start in December, and has a completion date of late May.

We'll keep you posted on the progress of both of these projects over the winter here on our blog.
